EIS
EIS detection technology is to measure the ratio of disturbance signals to response signals at different frequencies,
obtain the real part Re and imaginary part Im of impedance at different frequencies, and then plot them into Nyquist
plots
It is also possible to obtain the modulus and phase angle through the real and imaginary parts, and then plot them into
a Bode plot
Nyquist plot and Bode plot are commonly used electrochemical impedance spectroscopy

How is EIS testing implemented?
Apply a certain frequency of current excitation to both ends of the battery electrode, collect the voltage fluctuations at
the corresponding frequency at both ends of the battery electrode, and through digital processing, obtain the AC impedance
of the battery at that frequency. Plot the AC impedance at different frequencies into EIS diagrams.
What are the parameters of EIS reaction batteries?
The internal temperature of the battery cell, SoH, lithium deposition, mechanical damage, etc. are closely related, and the
relevant functional applications can be achieved through the EIS parameters detected by the chip.

The commercial value of innovative solutions
The DNB11xx series BMS chip with integrated online EIS impedance monitoring function can provide functions such as
cell offline detection, cell thermal runaway management, fault cell detection, online SOH detection, cell recycling and
secondary utilization, and wireless BMS remote diagnosis for batteries.

DNB1168 can use the AC impedance monitoring function to achieve rapid temperature detection inside the battery cell.
Compared to traditional NTC (thermocouple) methods, the AC impedance monitoring function can provide a second
level internal temperature detection, which more accurately reflects the current internal temperature of the battery cell
and provides safer protection for new energy vehicles.
Thermal runaway warning
When there is a violent reaction inside the battery cell, the internal temperature will be significantly higher than the
external temperature, and the greater the temperature difference, the greater the risk of thermal runaway.
Based on internal resistance estimation, the internal temperature of the battery is faster and more accurate compared to
external NTC detection methods. It can suppress the thermal runaway of the battery in the early stages and effectively
solve the problem of battery cell thermal runaway detection, ensuring the safety of the entire life cycle of the new energy
system.

The DNB series chips with EIS functionality can integrate the functions of electrochemical workstations that are currently
limited to laboratory conditions into the Pack, thereby achieving true SOH estimation based on the aging degree of the
internal mechanism of the battery cell. Compared with capacity based estimation methods, our solution has disruptive

Compared with the traditional multi string battery solution, the DNB1168 solution abandons NTC and other peripheral circuit designs. The chip has a built-in temperature sensor, which can greatly improve system integration while reducing the use of peripheral devices and lowering system BOM costs. Thus fundamentally solving the space problem, better adapting CTP, CTC, CTB technologies, and helping partners maximize the utilization of power batteries.
